Grand Hyatt, Jakarta

We booked the family package with G Hyatt Jakarta where we paid the full rate for the 1st room and get the 2nd room for 1/2 price. Modern, decent room with large bathroom and seperate walk in wardrobe. Asked for the view of the roundabout but instead given the pool view room which is not too bad either. Quite a large selection for breakfast – Chinese, local dish, Western etc – but I think the dim sum is quite bland. High standard of service at check in and check out, even the cleaners knows my surname at least. To travel around, the Silverbird taxi will always be waiting just outside the lobby with its Mercedes fleet.

Most important I believe is the location, right at the HI roundabout, next to Grand Indonesia mall and the hotel itself is within the Plaza Indonesia complex which extended to quite a walking distance on some tired tiny feet. Good excuse to tell the missus that the family should go back to our rooms for a much needed rest after hours of shopping.

Overall thumbs up for GHyatt.

Gran Melia, Jakarta

5 star hotel in the business district with strict security procedure. At least 5 guards manning the entrance checking the vehicle going in, then the barrier, sniff dog at the main hotel entrance, go through the metal detector then only you can go through the front door.
Traffic is always busy in front of the hotel making it longer to go out and into the hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, check in was quick. I like the breakfast spread, local food, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish food, no complaint at all on that issue.

Nice size room, furniture a bit dated except for the LCD TV, overall quite what one expect from this kind of hotel but I would not come here again, location is too busy and still have to pay USD12 for internet access. The only good thing is its just 5 minutes walk to Delta Spa 🙂

Hotel Akmani, Jakarta

This is a brand new hotel at Jl KH Wahid Hasyim right behind Sarinah and a stone throw away from Tanah Abang complex. Its more of a business hotel, a few meeting rooms etc, free internet access with cable in room and wi-fi too, reception is better in the lobby. Room is clean, fresh towel and bedsheets and a nice modern design room with LCD TV. Check in was easy, we only made the reservation through email and the Reservation manager held our room till night as we flew in late in the evening. Staff are very friendly and helpful cant find any fault there. Breakfast is basic but filling. Overall I can’t find any fault.

Le Meridien Jakarta

security was very tight when we checked in as we arrived on the same day as the bombing in JWM n RC but the staff were very courteous checking through our luggage and check in was swift. No complaints on the room, its cleaned up every day and more than once if requested. Breakfast is adequate mix of local n other dishes.
Overall a nice hotel with great friendly staff… shame that the internet rates was too expensive. I would expect with the more than USD100 room rate wi-fi should be free in public areas at least
